The Guardian reports that, in the EU, “a law comes into force in 30 countries in move campaigners hope will stop an estimated 1m waterbirds a year dying of lead poisoning”.

In the UK, lead ammunition already is banned below the high water mark, designated sites, and specific species, but not all wetlands. See The Environmental Protection (Restriction On Use Of Lead Shot) (England) Regulations 1999.
